BIO

Stuart Orchard is a West Australian composer-performer, sound designer and educator. He engages new music and exploratory improvisation practices, focussing on the natural world and phenomena at the edges of human perception. Stuart is inspired by site-specific composition, aeolian music and environmental art. Fostering interaction between the human and natural world through composition and performance techniques is a goal in his work. Frequent themes also include immersive listening, and considering how music that pushes the boundaries, might engage broad audiences and big ideas. He moonlights as a singer-songwriter/guitarist and plays in several bands in Perth across rock, folk. French Caribbean and country music genres.

 

Stuart completed a Bachelor of Music (Composition and Music Technology) with First Class Honours in 2020 . He has a Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing) and Diploma of Education (Secondary English).

Stuart Orchard lives and makes music on Whadjuk Noongar/Bibbulmun land and since 2023, Ngunnawal Country. He pays respect to Whadjuk Noongar/Bibbulmun and Ngunnawal elders past, present and emerging and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and culture on country that was never ceded.
